Insulated fixing tape

Insulation tape is specifically used for insulation or fixing. It is suitable for wire wrapping, electrical insulation, thermal insulation, etc.

Production Process Flow

From raw materials to finished product, every step is rigorously controlled to ensure consistent and reliable performance.

Substrate:
Polyimide (PI) film (gold standard, heat resistance above 260°C, high insulation).
PET film (lower cost, heat resistance 150-180°C).
Fiberglass cloth (enhanced mechanical strength, heat resistance above 300°C).
Adhesive:
Silicone (heat resistance 200-300°C, good flexibility).
Modified acrylic adhesive (high initial tack, heat resistance 150-200°C).
Epoxy resin adhesive (ultra-high bond strength, but brittle).
Additives:
Flame retardants (such as aluminum hydroxide), antioxidants (to improve aging resistance).

Surface Cleaning:
Plasma treatment or solvent cleaning (to remove grease and dust).
Corona treatment (for plastic films):
Increases surface energy and enhances adhesive adhesion.
Primer Coating (optional):
For low-surface-energy materials such as PI film, improving adhesive bonding.

Coating Method:
Comma Blade Coating (High-Precision Control of Adhesive Layer Thickness).
Slit Coating (Suitable for High-Viscosity Adhesives, Solvent-Free).
Adhesive Layer Thickness:
Usually 10-50μm, with uniformity control required (±2μm tolerance).
Drying Process:
Step-by-step drying (e.g., 80°C → 120°C → 150°C) to avoid solvent residue and air bubbles.

Laminated Release Film:
Protecting the adhesive surface and preventing adhesion of the roll (release film must be heat-resistant).
Heat Curing:
Some adhesives require high-temperature curing (e.g., silicone gel curing at 150-180°C for 1-2 minutes).

Slitting:
Slitting into various widths (e.g., 5mm, 10mm, 20mm, etc.) according to customer requirements.
Die-Cutting (Optional):
Processing into specific shapes (e.g., insulating gaskets with positioning holes).

Surface Coating:
Spray-on ceramic coating (improves arc resistance, for high-voltage insulation).
Flame Retardant Treatment:
Impregnated with flame retardant (e.g., phosphate ester), meeting UL94 V0 standards.

Electrical Properties:
Insulation resistance (≥10^12Ω, 500VDC test).
Dielectric Strength (≥5kV/mm, no breakdown for 1 minute).
Mechanical Properties:
Tensile Strength (PI substrate ≥150MPa), Peel Strength (≥1.5N/cm).
Heat Resistance Test:
High-Temperature Aging (e.g., no delamination or embrittlement after 200°C/1000h).
Environmental Testing:
Humidity and Heat Cycling (85°C/85%RH), Thermal Shock (-40°C to 150°C).

Dust- and moisture-proof packaging: Vacuum aluminum foil bags or anti-static packaging. Marking: Indicates temperature resistance level, insulation voltage, flame retardant level, etc.

Technical Showdown: Insulation Tapes

The primary alternative to specialized insulation tape is general-purpose duct tape. While both can hold materials, their differences in adhesive technology, strength, and durability have a profound impact on system performance and longevity.

Reinforced Insulation Tape

  • High Tensile Strength: Reinforced scrim prevents tearing and securely holds heavy insulation boards.

  • Aggressive Adhesion: Specialized acrylic adhesive creates a permanent bond to vapor barriers and insulation facings.
  • Creates Air-Tight Seal: Effectively seals joints and seams, preventing thermal bridging and moisture ingress.
  • Wide Temperature Range: Maintains bond integrity during temperature fluctuations in attics and walls.
  • Wide Temperature Range: Maintains bond integrity during temperature fluctuations in attics and walls.

Standard Duct Tape

  • Adhesive Failure: Rubber-based adhesive can dry out and fail over time, especially with temperature swings.
  • Leaves Residue: Often leaves a sticky, difficult-to-clean residue upon removal.
  • Poor Seal: Does not create a reliable air or vapor barrier, compromising insulation performance.
  • Low Durability: Not designed for long-term exposure to UV light or moisture found in building envelopes.
  • Readily Available: Commonly available and can be used for temporary, non-critical fixes.

Functions, Uses, and Applications

Insulation fixing tape is a specialized adhesive solution for the construction industry. Its core function is to securely fasten, seal, and protect insulation materials, ensuring thermal efficiency and system integrity.

Mechanical Fastening

Provides strong, durable adhesion to hold insulation boards, batts, and membranes in place on walls, roofs, and floors before final cladding.

Thermal Bridge Prevention

Seals joints and seams between insulation panels, preventing air leakage and heat loss that can occur at gaps, thus improving overall energy efficiency.

Vapor Barrier Sealing

Creates an airtight and moisture-resistant seal on vapor control layers (VCL) and foil-faced insulation, protecting the building structure from condensation.

Primary Application Fields

Our product is essential for modern, energy-efficient building systems in both new construction and renovation projects:

  • Rigid Foam Insulation: Securing PIR, PUR, XPS, and EPS insulation boards in wall cavities and roofing systems.
  • HVAC Ductwork: Sealing joints and seams on fiberglass or foil-faced duct insulation to ensure airtightness.
  • Building Wraps & Membranes: Taping overlaps in house wraps and vapor barriers to create a continuous air and moisture barrier.
  • Pipe Lagging: Fastening and sealing the outer jackets of pre-insulated pipes for both thermal and weather protection.
